A total of eleven Hamrun TFC players took part in the International Open last Saturday 25th March 2006. Five players took part in the open, one in the veteran, one in the under 15 and five in the under 13 categories respectively.
Three out of the five players involved in the open category qualified from their group, with the best result coming from Ilai Zammit Marmara' wining the group after beating seeded Delphine Dieudonne 1-0. Mario Camilleri also did not qualify after facing one of the hardest groups involving Mark Gauci and Joseph Mifsud.
In the Barrage Ilai Zammit Marmara' met Josef Camilleri, but unfortanetly Josef could not play the match and therefore Ilai qualified from this round with a walk over. In the last 16 Ilai met Saverio Bari, with the result ending 2-2. Ilai was twice in the lead and in both occasions reached by Saverio. Kenneth Attard faced Laurent Goor and manged to win 2-1. Kenneth was on fire after making some great performances.
In the quarter finals Kenneth met Hansel Mallia who had previously eliminated Patrick Pace. The match was a very entertaining one, with thoughts going on previous matches the two players played against each other some years back in the Hamrun TFC competitions. The match finished with a 2-2 scoreline. To the end of sudden death everything looked like the match was to end with a shoot out but a fast first timer in the last seconds of the period was vital for Hansel who found the winner. Kenneth was the last of the Hamrun TFC players to be involved in this compeition.
The competition was finally won by Massimo Cremona who played Mark Gauci in the final. The final was a very close one with Mark Gauci leading the match till three minutes to the end. But Massimo remained calm and found the equiliser. He eventually managed to win the match through a sudden death goal!
In the under 15 category the only Hamrun TFC player involved was Edward Said who qualified from his group after finishing runner up to Thomas Camilleri. In the semi final he had to surrender to much more experienced Timothy Spiteri who won the match 1-0. Timothy eventually managed to win this competition against Thomas Camilleri with a comfortable 4-0 victory.
The under 13 category had six players, five of which are Hamrun TFC players. In the first group Darren Bezzina won the group and Brandon Farrugia qualified as runner up. In the second group Matthew Pace and Sergio Degabriele qualified with Matthew winning the group only on goal difference.
