Last weekend Hamrun TFC participated in the Europa Cup for teams which was held in Tournai, Belgium. This competition is equivalent to the football Champions League. Hamrun TFC earned the right to participate in this competition after being crowned Malta Champions last season.

Hamrun were placed in group D, alongside Reggio Emilia (Ita), Delft (Ned), Cardiff San Siro (Wal), Sparta Spreeathen (Ger), Olympia (Gre), Le Raincy (Fra), Rochefort (Bel).

The Hamrun team managed to obtain some magnificent results, including a win against the Belgian team, Rochefort and a draw against Reggio Emilia who are the current Italian champions. In the final group classification Hamrun placed second in the group beating all expectations, only two points behind Italian giants, Reggio Emilia.

The team was then unlucky to meet other Italian giants, Napoli in the last 16 stage. Hamrun lost this match 2-0, even though they gave the Italian team a hard time! Napoli eventually kept going to win the competition.
